Use strategies to aid accurate spelling (i) Apply strategies for learning and remembering spelling which take into account the part played in accurate spelling by the visual memory (what words look like), motor memory (the use of joined-up handwriting) and auditory memory (what words sound like) (ii) Apply understanding of the importance of personal learning style and of independent strategies to aid spelling (iii) Use understanding of how words relate to each other in word families, to help with development of lexis and spelling (iv) Use different types of dictionary, including standard English dictionaries not specifically developed for learners.
