Rw/E1.1a Recognise a limited number of words, signs and symbols
(i) Recognise some key personal words. E.g. Their country of origin, their address.
(ii) Recognise some common words and symbols that occur more frequently than others in texts.
(iii) Apply strategies that help in the recognition of high-frequency whole words, including: association with words in English and other languages, association with signs and symbols used in other languages and cultures
(iv) Understand and recognise the use of in, out, off and down on signs

A Beginners / Entry 1 level set of activities to introduce and practise using adjectives within the theme of travel.

Practise vocabulary, antonyms, spelling, sentence structure and handwriting.

Although written for ESOL most parts of this resource are also very suitable for E1-2 Functional English. In addition to the many tasks it also provides a short overview of adjectives  and basic sentence structure . Great for the build up to summer holidays - or indeed any time of year!

Functional Skills ICT: Using ICT

Gap-fill reading activity with food vocab for pre-Entry and Entry Level 1 ESOL. Vocab: coffee, carrots, tomatoes, spices, onions, butter. I used this in a Zoom lesson. It works well as an extra activity alongside English My Way: Shopping. (The images are all used in accordance with their Creative Commons licenses).

This is a fun activity which encourages ESOL learners to engage with digital technology and transacting online. It provides opportunity to explore vocabulary related to shopping while also discussing the advantages of shopping for food online. It can be adapted to all levels and can be extended for a longer activity if required.
