Catering Food Nutrition

An overview and guidance for catering students who had to complete a local hospitality provision project – including phoning and interviewing a local chef/manager/owner. Cleverly written like a recipe.

A great set of ice breaker quizzes for all levels. 6 options. Can you write down a song for each letter of the alphabet? Or a food, film, TV programme, famous person, etc.
Students could be given a different quiz sheet each and be encouraged to wander round and ask other students to help fill the gaps. Alternatively students could work in teams – the first team to complete an entire sheet wins!

A great 2.5 hr differentiated lesson plan complete with resources including ordering and matching worksheets and cards, simple spelling sheet, healthy eating chart (please download the accompanying Excel file – see below). The main topic is making an omelette and the lesson includes sequencing, letters, word recognition and building, and simple sentences. You will also need food leaflets from supermarkets, plastic or wooden letters and a tape recorder.

Short quiz provides useful on-screen practice in recognising adverbs (and reading instructions). You can also print a separate copy of the recipe for reading practice, a paper based activity (or to cook it!).

To run the quiz unzip the files (select “Extract all files”) into a new folder and click on l1adverbhotpot. Do not try to run directly from the zip folder or you will not see all the graphics and links.

A fabulous set of integrated activities that cover food vocabulary, use of is/are, paired speaking and listening practice (asking the price of food – with fill-in dialogue cards), reading and writing shopping lists.

A beautiful set of bingo games for preEntry and E1 literacy/ESOL. Choice of word or picture tiles provides easy differentiation, plus there is a second game with larger bingo boards and more white space (often better for SLDD students).
